School principal says self-belief key to achieving goals

IN the past 12 months, Warwick Christian College principal Mrs Jenny Lang, applying her background in diverse educational settings and P-12 guidance, has sought to consolidate the foundations laid by Mr Terrence McCorkell when he established Slade Campus at Horsman Rd to cater for students from Prep to Year 8.

Kingswood campus maintains the Southern Downs Flexible Learning Hub as an alternate education opportunity for disengaged students to seek to thrive. In 2016, the college will introduce Year 11 at Slade campus and continue to operate a bus connection from Stanthorpe.

"Anything is possible if you believe," Mrs Lang said. "As a child I played school and knew one day I would be a teacher.

My dream became reality with much more. I am truly blessed.

"The most enjoyable part of my role is 'standing in the gap' for my colleagues and being fully engaged teaching children, whether that's in my middle secondary maths class, at a camp, being arms deep in washing-up water for the hospitality students, delivering career education or teaching the odd swimming lesson."

Mrs Lang is excited about the direction the Warwick Christian College is heading.

"At the college we have multi-age classes from Prep to Year 12, across two campuses, focusing on learning styles, ability and welfare.

"The newly created vocational education and training program provides an alternate education model for students eager to join the work force."

An opportunity to discover the difference at WCC can be enjoyed at the Rock and Roll Dinner, on June 18, showcasing integrated studies in junior secondary. Tickets are available through the office, as also are campus tours.
