'Strongman' uses teacher to show value of healthy eating

KIDS at a Buderim early learning centre could barely believe their eyes when Coast "strongman" Tim O'Shea lifted their teacher over his head like she was a stick.

Mr O'Shea was invited to speak to the children at Goodstart Early Learning centre last Monday about the importance of good nutrition and showed off a few of his favourite tricks to his eager crowd.

The strongman athlete said he was lucky for the opportunity to help promote healthy eating and exercise.

"It's valuable to show the kids how to look after your body and what you can do when you are looking after it," he said. "And to show sport is for everyone."

Acting centre director Jody O'Shea said they had been discussing nutrition with the children lately but it was hard to make them realise exactly why eating their vegetables was a good thing.

"I think this really enforces this conversation we've been having about healthy eating," she said.

"It's good to have someone who can show them something unusual and help them understand what makes you strong."

Mr O'Shea invited the kids to lift his 50kg dumbbell, which nobody could budge, before hoisting the weight and then "Miss Jody" above his head.

Classmates Brooke O'Shea and Mahalia Drinnan said it was cool to see their teacher lifted up so easily.

Mr O'Shea will compete in the Brisbane Strongman competition in two weeks.
