School and actors all have a ball

IT WAS a rollicking production which brought together the Coffs Harbour school and theatre communities in an unexpected partnership.

The Outback Debutante Ball was staged at Narranga Public School at the end of the last school term with eight performances – four matinees and four evening shows – delighting the big crowds who revelled in the theatre restaurant atmosphere.

The musical, featuring the best of our local talented performers, was brought to the stage by the Coffs Harbour Amateur Theatre Society (CHATS) with the help of the school, to rave reviews.

Now that the takings have been finalised, CHATS has handed over half the profits to the school to help with the continuing provision of facilities.

“CHATS used our hall facilities and our school P&C catered for the production,” said Narranga Public School principal Graham Doust.

“It was run like a ball and everyone enjoyed themselves, with school staff and students taking part.

“We all had a great time and the P&C did a great job catering and we were especially thankful to C.ex Coffs for preparing the food.”

The proceeds now go to the school to help acquire air-conditioning of classrooms and buying smartboards.

Mr Doust and colleague Rod Johnson were also on stage with several songs.
