Salvos launch Red Shield Appeal

THE Salvation Army's Red Shield Appeal launch raised more than $10,000 at a public breakfast this morning.

80 people attended the event at Yaralla Sports Club to launch the annual campaign.

Special guest and Australian Paralympian Karni Liddell gave an inspiring speech on her Salvos experience.

Karni was told she would never be able to walk again after being diagnosed with a muscle wasting disease. At 36, she has won medals for swimming at an international level.

Lieutenant Kaylene Ford said the morning was a success.

"Today was the first time a public launch has been done in Gladstone," she said.

"We invited the business community because we wanted to honour those who support us. They continue to do so and we are grateful."

The target amount for the breakfast as $10,000 and Mrs Ford said that amount was exceeded.

The Red Shielf Appeal door knock is on the last weekend of May and the Red Shield Appeal is looking for volunteers.
