Saints take bite out of Sharks

TOUCH: Sharks started their title defence on the back foot with a loss at the weekend.

Looking to start the A-grade men's season strongly Sharks were edged out by a determined Saints going down 10-7.

Sam Carmody was a stand out once again for last year's beaten grand finalists playing a key role in most of Saints tries.

Carmody was well supported by Tom Quinlivan who made a strong return after sitting out last season.

In other games Dan O'Brien led from the front for Roosters in their 9-4 victory over Lions and Rebels Hurricanes were too strong for Royals winning 11-0.

In the women's division defending premier Roosters held off a fast-finishing Saints to start their season with an 8-5 win.

Roosters started the game full of running, quickly establishing a 4-0 lead, before Saints fought back.

Quality performances from Australian under-18 representative Emily Ward and Matilda Leicht were key in Roosters win.

Shenae Ciesolka was best on ground for Saints.

Playing their first A-grade women's match Royals recorded a 3-3 draw with Fairholme and Sharks defeated Rebels Hurricanes 10-2.
