Saint Sam is now making a point for his new club
AUSSIE RULES: He looks like an old-fashioned footballer and is as tough as teak.
And BITS Saints forward Sam Pierpoint is relishing his role as a forward for his new club.
Fresh from a five-goal haul against Gladstone Mudcrabs, Pierpoint is plotting more of the same against Rockhampton Brothers this Saturday.
"The standard has really surprised me actually and the ball movement and skills have been quality," he said.
"It's a tough, fast-paced competition, which is great."
New dad Pierpoint and partner Lauren Greenaway moved to Boyne Island for work, where he is a boilermaker at Butler Fabrications.
Pierpoint first started playing senior Aussie rules for Jindera Bulldogs in country New South Wales from 2008-12, which included a premiership in 2011.
"I was captain of the under-18 Murray Bushrangers, where we won the premiership, and a year later I played for Box Hill in the VFL in Melbourne, but got cut short with a long list of injuries," he said.
"I moved to the Sunshine Coast in 2014 to play for Caloundra Panthers, where I won A-league best and fairest."
And those at the Saints have seen the reason why.
Aside from some wayward kicking for goal, he found his radar last weekend.
"I kicked 2.4 against Yeppoon and kicked 3.7 against Panthers, so I have been pretty inaccurate and need to work on composing myself," he said.
