Can you help Rusty get home?

WHEN Rusty the Australian terrier's family went on holidays without him he decided to take matters into his own paws - hitchhiking with a truckie all the way from Goondiwindi to Snowtown, South Australia.

Laura Scudamore lives with her husband Stuart and their two kids Eliza and Sam on a cattle property just outside of Goondiwindi.

Rusty has been having a great time in Snowtown - but is now keen to come home.

The family was off enjoying their holiday at Caloundra while three-year-old Rusty was being looked after by Mr Scudamore's parents.

He snuck away and ran for the highway where it's believed he managed to stowaway in an under carriage of a truck headed for Snowtown.

Somewhere along the way the truckie found Rusty and took him home.

He was wearing a tag with the in-laws' number on it so the truckie's wife gave the Scudamores a call.

"Last time we went away he hitched a ride to Chinchilla," she said.

"He's really upped the ante this time making it all the way to South Australia."

Ms Scudamore said her well-travelled pooch was enjoying the holiday.

"I get sent photos everyday of him being pampered ... he just loves being in the middle of all of the attention so this is just suiting him down to the ground," she said.

The Scudamores have watched the movie Red Dog and the similarities between the star and Rusty aren't lost on them.

"He won't be watching it, he doesn't need any encouraging," Mrs Scudamore said.

The only time he ever gets out are when the Scudamores go on holidays so the family said they'll probably take him with them next time.

They suspect that was Rusty's master plan all along.

"The kids miss him and we're expecting twins soon so are keen to have him home before the next amount of chaos happens," she said.
