Russell Crowe's directorial debut looks back on Gallipoli

THE first image from Russell Crowe's film The Water Diviner has been released.

Crowe makes his directorial debut with the post-war drama, currently filming in South Australia.

Set four years after the battle of Gallipoli, Aussie farmer Connor (Crowe) travels to Istanbul to discover the fate of his sons, reported missing in the action.

He forges a relationship with the beautiful Turkish woman (Olga Kurylenko) who owns the hotel in which he stays.

The production will soon move to Turkey, where the majority of the film will be shot in March.
