Running for national glory
Duathlon: It's not everyday you get to represent you country by running through a picturesque European city, but it's an experience Roma's David Schefe can claim after competing in Denmark earlier this month.
Schefe participated in the ITU World Multisport Championships duathlon in Odense on July 8, which comprised a 28km course running and cycling through and around the city.
"In Europe you see all those outdoor dining cafes and that, so there's still people there dining as you're racing,” Schefe explained.
"It's great, anyone having the opportunity to represent your country in an event like that against the best in the world is fantastic.”
The trip wasn't without it's hiccoughs though, with Schefe's bike getting damaged on the way to Denmark.
"My bike was damaged in transit so I had to organise for that to be repaired,” he explained.
But there was plenty to celebrate, with Schefe achieving a personal best at the event.
"I made a lot of really good friends in the Australian team, we're all still in contact, they're a very very positive group of people, they're encouraging,” Schefe said.
And he's already looking towards next year's competition (to be held in Spain) after competing in a selection race since returning to Australia.
