IN 2015 the Kehres family from Proserpine participated in the 2015 Cruise Whitsundays Airlie Beach Running Festival, with mum Anne-Marie at 36 weeks pregnant competing in the 10km distance and sons Ryder and Bryn in the Kids 2km Fun Run.

They are returning to the event this year but Anne-Marie will not be pregnant and is entered in the Half Marathon event, with the boys (Ryder 7 and Bryn 5) in the 2km Fun Run again.

Anne-Marie is a very busy mum working as a full-time physiotherapist, but together with her husband Brian they manage to spend any spare time they have encouraging their boys to be active outdoors.

"We love to cycle together and run together as well as encourage our boys into other sport disciplines, which means a lot of time-juggling," she said.

To add to the busy schedule, Anne-Marie found herself in Townsville Hospital unexpectedly a month ago with baby Andrys.

He spent three weeks in ICU with strep pneumonia, a life threatening condition and a very scary time for the family.

"To help me get through the tough moments, I would go out for my 'prayer run' every morning - therapy for mind, body and spirit," Anne-Marie said.

"Once Andrys was in stable condition and was permitted to go outside, I loaded up all the attachments into the stroller and took him out around the river for much needed sunshine."

Anne-Marie encouraged everyone to "get out there and do something". "If you can't run, then walk or ride. Join the running club if you are looking for like minded people. Give it a go and remember to have fun," she said.

"And just a little physio advice: correct running biomechanics and good fitting shoes will serve you well. "The best anti-depressant is exercise and vitamin D."
