Rum lovers line up for new spirit

MORE than 1000 people got into the spirit of things yesterday when they lined up for the newest limited-edition bottle of Bundaberg Rum.

Brand manager Mark McCleod said the launch of the Bundaberg Racing Rum was to celebrate the company’s sponsorship of its racing team.

The 25,000 bottles of the limited-edition rum will now go on sale at the company’s Bondstore and selected bottle shops.

It is the fifth special release the company has made so far this year.

Mr McLeod said each bottle would be individually numbered to make them collectors’ items.

“The low numbers will definitely be collectors’ items,” he said.

“It’s hard to say how valuable they can get, but they will definitely go above the $40 price for each bottle.”

Mr McLeod said the company expected the limited edition bottles to sell out within a few months.

He said the rum in the bottles was a specially aged five-year-old blend.

Yesterday’s launch also featured the three cars in the racing team that compete in the V8 Supercars, the V8 Utes and the Australian GT Championship.

Their drivers signed bottles and met members and fans.

Mr McLeod said people at the launch also got the chance to look through the vehicle that transports the race cars.
