AUSTRALIAN rugby league "Immortal" Graeme Langlands has been charged with indecent dealings with a girl under 16.

The 76-year-old was not present when his matter was mentioned in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The former St Dragons fullback was charged with six counts of indecent dealings relating to offences that occurred on the Gold Coast in the early 1980s.

Langlands lives in a nursing home in New South Wales and is suffering from dementia and other health problems.

Langlands, nicknamed "Changa", represented Australia in 45 Tests and, in 1999, was given the status of "Immortal", a title bestowed to only eight of rugby league's all-time greats.

In an April interview with The Sunday Telegraph Langlands talked slowly and struggled to complete a sentence without the help of his daughter Monique.

His short term memory had completely disappeared.

A leading neurologist claims old football head injuries have contributed to the brain deterioration that has resulted in Langlands being placed in the nursing home suffering Alzheimer's disease and needing 24-hour care to go about his daily tasks.

He was moved from Port Stephens to Sutherland at the start of 2017 to be closer to his family and friends, including old team mates who regularly visit him.

Langlands told the Telegraph's Phil Rothfield: "Life's not too bad. I'd like to be outside, but … It's pretty good here - I'll be OK."
