Rugby Golden Goats prove age is a mindset
RUGBY UNION: You are never too old to have some sporting fun and Carl Weston did just that at the Rugby Union Golden Oldies in Christchurch.
Players of various ages over 35 descended on the New Zealand city to relive their glory days recently.
Gladstone Old Goats Carl Weston was in the thick of it putting in a good show with other rugby players.
"I'm 52 and our oldest player for us was 69. But a Japanese team had the two oldest players at 84 and 83,” Carl said
The motto of Golden Oldies 2018 was 'Fun, Friendship and Fraternity'.
"To keep fun and fair the final score is always 25-nil at the end of the game,” Carl said.
"It's a great family event and wives play in it sometimes.”
Golden Oldies Sport Festivals are open to anyone aged 35 and over who enjoy playing Rugby Union and there is no upper age limit in Golden Oldies.
The festival is held every two years in various sporting destinations around the world, including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, England, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Russia, South Africa and USA.
