Romantic proposal on overseas trip

NAOMI Buchholz was on top of the world - literally - when Simon Hayward proposed in New Zealand.

The couple, on their first overseas holiday together, and their travelling companions - Simon's father and his cousins (Naomi's friends) Meg and Maddy - were in Queenstown at the end of our their trip when Simon organised a helicopter ride.

"We have never been on a helicopter, and I have never seen snow before this trip,” Naomi recalled.

"The helicopter took us to the top of a snow-covered mountain and after throwing snow balls at each other and making snow angels ... Simon got down on one knee, waist deep in the snow, and proposed. I still remember what he said: 'What do you think?'

"I fell over in the snow in shock as it was already up to my knees. I got up, said yes and tackled him in the snow.

"Everyone then decided it was a great time to attack us with snow balls.”

They were married on March 2, with celebrant Jarrad Bayliss performing the ceremony on the Pandanus Lawn at Novotel Twin Waters Resort.

The bride ensured the wedding was a family affair, with her older sister as maid of honour, all four nieces as junior bridesmaids and flowergirls, and her brother as a groomsman.

The Haywards, who met on a State of Origin rugby league night out at a Hervey Bay nightclub, held their reception at the resort's Lily's On The Lagoon.

They will live at Wondunna, Hervey Bay.
