Rockhampton students inspired by NITV Channel manager

ROCKHAMPTON holds a dear place in Tanya Denning-Orman's heart so returning home to help inspire young Central Queenslander's is very special to her.

The NITV Channel manager was invited back to Rocky by her alma mater, CQUniversity to be a guest speaker at the Community Aspirations program function last night.

The invitations for the program were open for anyone to attend the event at the Rockhampton Leagues Club.

It has been 20 years since Tanya finished her study at CQUniversity and was happy to have the opportunity to connect with people in regional centres again.

Tanya said any opportunity to talk with people was a good one, but Rockhampton sometimes missed out on programs such as Community Aspirations.

"I think a lot of great things have come out of here (Rockhampton) so it's a good opportunity for me to showcase my team to the region and also it's always important to give back to the community which reared you."

The NITV channel manager, who we talked with prior to the event, said the room would be primarily full with Indigenous, Torres Strait Islander students and community groups.

"A couple of things we will be talking about are the importance of having a good foundation and belonging and knowing where you come from."

"I think you can achieve anything if you have a good foundation and base."

Tanya said she hoped the event benefited those who attended.

"I'm hoping I can inspire in the sense that anything is really possible," she said.
