Rock chick Brianna ready for big eisteddfod show

BRIANNA Braithwaite isn't your typical rock chick. But she'll be fronting a rock band at this year's Gladstone Eisteddfod.

The 16-year-old has competed in the eisteddfod since she was in primary school.

Her first solo performance was in Year 8.

"I mainly enjoy the opportunities that come up that let me try new things," she said.

"Usually I don't sing in a rock band but for eisteddfods I do."

Brianna's rock band will perform in an ensemble category.

Next year she hopes to start a Bachelor of Music.

"Eisteddfod especially has opened my eyes to what I love about performing ... I'd like to play in chamber groups or an orchestra," she said.

The Tannum Sands State High school student will compete in the mixed duet, woodwind solo, brass solo and six school sections.
