SOUTH Australia's Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure has warned that Majors Rd at O'Halloran Hill will be temporarily closed at the Southern Expressway from now until later this year.
The closure follows the reopening of the Seacombe Rd Bridge and enables major earthworks and bridge extension works to be undertaken safely and efficiently, as part of the $407.5 million Southern Expressway Duplication project.
Work will generally be undertaken from Monday to Saturday between 6am and 7pm, weather permitting.
During the closure, vehicles will be detoured via:
- Lonsdale Rd, Lander Rd and Main South Rd
- Brighton Rd, Seacombe Rd, and Main South Rd
The veloway will remain open with entry and exit points maintained on Majors Rd east of the bridge. Cyclists accessing the veloway from Majors Rd west of the bridge will be detoured to Lander Rd.
Local residents, business owners and workers are reminded to be mindful of the increase in the number of construction vehicles and equipment moving through the area.
The duplication of the Southern Expressway is a key part of the development of Adelaide's north-south corridor and, when complete, will deliver an 18.5 kilometre multi-lane, two-way expressway between Bedford Park and Old Noarlunga by mid-2014.
