FOOTBALL: Four trips to Brisbane a week in winter to follow a sporting dream has paid off for Wheatvale student Talitha Doro with selection with the Australian under-19 schoolgirls team to tour the United Kingdom in January.

Doro won the Daily News/Warwick Credit Union Junior Sports Star of the Year award in 2012 after playing for Australia in a World Youth Championship qualifier in the Philippines last November.

This year, she has trained with a Queensland Academy of Sport squad and played some games against an under-15 boys team.

Doro has already been selected in a South West Thunder women's squad for next year's National Premier League.

The year 11 Warwick State High School student is already facing choices in sport and had to withdraw from an open Queensland futsal team due to football commitments.

With one year of her secondary education to go, she is already eyeing off going to college in Canada or the United States in 2015 for study and football.

The long-term dream is to play for the Australian Matildas but she isn't desperate to make it as a teenager.

"Most of the current Matildas are 23 or 24," she said.

Doro mainly plays centre midfield but also left back.

She hasn't been able to do it by herself. Her mother Leeanda makes most of the four winter trips to Brisbane each week.

"My brother Bryce has also driven me to training but I also receive a lot of support from my dad and sisters Shandell and Jamilah," she said.

Shandell and Jamilah both played for South West this year and Bryce has played for the Warwick Wolves so there is no shortage of volunteers for a kick in the backyard.

Doro will be away with the Australian team on January 8-25 and play eight games on tour. At age 16, Doro has the football world at her feet.
