MACKAY residents crying out for a modern rideshare service will be thrilled to hear that muve is looking to expand into the region.

However, regional taxi drivers will presumably be reeling at Thursday morning's surprise announcement.

The Australian-owned and operated company muve said in a statement it has "set its sights” on the Sugar City and Townsville, following a "tremendous response” in Cairns since launching in July, 2018.

Founded in Brisbane, muve also runs rideshare servives in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and, most recently, Melbourne.

The company, in a similar vein to Uber, has described itself as "always giving more” and said it proves that "through its offerings to its passengers, drivers and the local community”.

"muve provides passengers with the most affordable fares, with no surge pricing, pays its drivers the highest rate in the industry and gives 10 per cent of its share each trip to a selection of inspiring Australian charitable organisations,” the company states.

"Passengers are able to choose a partner not-for-profit (NFP) organisation they wish the portion of their trips to go towards. Each NFP targets one of five cause categories.”

Those charities include Oaktree Australia, Australian Animal Rescue, White Ribbon Australia, Royal Flying Doctor Service and beyondblue.

"It is through the this that it can be seen just how much muve cares about the communities in which it operates, the company said.

"This is why the team at muve is thrilled to be entering Townsville and Mackay as a new rideshare alternative and to join the local community as a caring member.

"Through its offerings to the passengers, the drivers and the Australian community, every ride with muve truly does serve a purpose.”

Meanwhile, competitor Uber, which arrived in Queensland in 2014, still states it's "unavailable in your area” when Mackay residents open that particular ridesharing app on their smartphones.
