Ride to help beat the black dog of depression
BRETT and Michelle Lewis want bikers to join them in making some noise throughout the streets of the Fraser Coast.
The Maryborough couple are co-ordinating the region's second annual Black Dog Ride next month which raises awareness on depression and suicide.
The co-ordinator of the annual Black Dog Ride 1 Dayer said everyone has their story to tell.
"People just need people to talk to and to get the conversation started, and to let people know help is out there," Brett said.
"Depression affects everyone and the best way to help in prevention is to get a group of loud bikes and make a big, bold statement."
Brett knows first-hand how hard depression is to deal with.
"I did 15 years in the army infantry and come back broken - I suffered from post traumatic stress disorder," he said. "It took me four years after discharge to dig myself out of the hole I was in and even to start riding my bike. I have been out of the army for seven years, but it was a battle for me and even worse for Michelle."
