REVIEW: Heroes go head to head in an epic battle
I'D be lying if I said I wasn't a tad worried how one of the biggest Marvel films of 2016 was going to play out.
Amidst all the type of Captain America: Civil War, I prayed that the movie would be able to fill the insanely big boots it had sized up for.
Donning my Captain America shield backpack I climbed the stars of the cinema awaiting the carnage to unfold before my very eyes.
My breath was taken away.
Despite Cap's (Chris Evans) and the other Avengers best efforts to 'save the day' all over the globe, the collateral damage and death toll of innocent lives has come back to bite them.
Political pressure mounts to install a system accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team after the Avengers latest incident.
The changes causes a rift between the Avengers, Tony Stark (Robert Downy Jr) aka Iron Man heading the team supporting the oversight and accountability and Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, heading the team of heroes to remain a free entity to defend humanity without government control.
Right at the heart of the matter is Steve's best friend Bucky, who's been framed for an attack on the United Nations and more than 100 countries agreeing to the status quo.
Cap is left with no choice, but to take on the 'vigilante' title to find justice and truth through all the confusion.
It's not without its heart-aches and friend shifts - which tug ever so harshly on the heart-strings throughout the film.
The Captain America films have always been an exceptional franchise for capturing hero emotion and Civil War is no different.
Loyalty, friendship, duty and desire are layered through each character - rather than sides being 'back' and 'white' - there are always layers of grey that conflict with each Avenger's personality.
The addition of Spiderman to the sequence is incredible, cheeky and smack on character profiling.
Tom Holland IS the best Spiderman to date - no question.
The over-talkative dialogue during fight sequences is true to Peter Parker's nature and delightfully brings light-hearted comedy to what would otherwise be a heavy-loaded conflict.
Even Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) pushes his character's abilities to new creative heights (and sizes).
I was also very impressed with the portrait of Bucky in this film - his friendship with Steve is better portrayed along-side of his brutally Hydra-programmed alter-ego.
My personal favourite though was the likes of Black Panther, whose cat-like reflexes reflected that of a circus performer-ninja hybrid.
Captain America: Civil War marks a success in comic history for 2016, and a beautifully constructed story involving a multitude of superheroes without losing sight of the storyline, character personalities and action packed scenes.
