A return to bad habits leaves man with large fine

RETURNING to old habits and drug use has proved costly for a 28-year-old man fined more than $1000 by a Toowoomba court.

A police search of a Toowoomba residence on April 5, last year, had found a total 1.035g of methylamphetamine (ice) in small plastic bags in the bedroom of Andrew Simon Pepi Lammonde, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

Also found by police was a straw which Lammonde later admitted he had used to scoop up the drug and an extendable baton which was deemed a restricted item, police prosecutor Leea Trewin told the court.

Lammonde admitted to police the substance was methylamphetamine for his own personal use but that he hadn't realised that he was not entitled to have the extendable baton, Senior Cosntable Trewin said.

He pleaded guilty to all offences.

His solicitor Chris Lumme told the court waiting for a certificate of analysis for the drugs had caused the delay in having the matters dealt with by the court.

It had been a considerable time since his client was before a court for drug offences, Mr Lumme submitted.

Magistrate Damian Carroll fined Lammonde $1250 which was referred to the State Penalties Enforcement Registry (SPER) for payment.
