Rest area deprived highways
TRUCKIE Brendon Galbraith reckons there's enough rest stops between Sydney and Brisbane.
It was a statement that brought out a robust discussion on The Big Rigs Facebook page.
Jason Tran said, sure, it was if you drove that highway frequently and knew where they were, but what if you didn't?
"It's a lot easier to plan your trip if you know where they are but drivers without knowing rest locations is completely different,” he said.
Keith Morrell disagreed with young Brendan, saying there were heaps of areas with no drinking water, no food, few/no toilets, no shade and nowhere near town services.
"Useless and definitely not helping fatigue or safety,” he said.
Kym Colman said the Leichardt Highway would have to be the strongest contender for the most rest-area deprived.
"(It's) the bounciest, most piss poor excuse of a sealed road in the whole country!”
Clem Wehatley said he should try the Tanami in the Northern Territory and he might have a "whole new appreciation of what a bad road is all about.”
