LETTER: Churches need to be brave enough to help others

RE: FRASER Coast churches say no to offering "sanctuary" to the refugees (including children and babies) facing deportation to Nauru after the High Court ruled in favour of the Federal Government on the legality of offshore detention.

The Fraser Coast churches are using the excuse that they "must uphold the law" (FCC 06-02-16).

What a weak cop-out. There have been many bad "laws", like capital punishment for example, that had to be changed and was changed through action by an enlightened community.

Have your say and join the conversation below.

Some churches in Australia are brave enough to do something real for the benefit of humankind by reintroducing the ancient concept of sanctuary on church ground for those in need of refuge.

Many in the community applaud this action by the churches and are willing to help support the refugees.

But the Fraser Coast churches fail again.
