Ipswich's Liverpool faithful prepare for one roaring clash
LIVERPOOL fans are in a frenzy as they prepare to welcome the stars of one of the world's most famous football clubs this week.
Brisbane will be taken over by a sea of red scarves and jerseys as the English Premier League club hits town ahead of a game against the Brisbane Roar on Friday.
Among those screaming supporters that will flock to Lang Park will be the Queensland Liverpool Supporters Club, which boasts several members from the Ipswich area.
Lowood Liverpool supporter Liam O'Sullivan said he couldn't wait to see how the Roar stacked up against his favourite team.
"I am from (Limerick) Ireland and I used to fly across to watch them play at home twice a month," he said.
"It should be a great weekend out. There will be a chance for a legends of Liverpool meet and greet in King George Square, which will feature the likes of Ian Rush, Luis Garcia, Didi Hamann and Robbie Fowler.
"I think the Roar will give Liverpool a good run."
It is one of five pre-season matches for Liverpool and one of two to be played in Australia, providing a rare chance for Reds fans Down Under to see their heroes up close.
The last time the Reds came to Australia was 2013, when they played Melbourne Victory in front of a sold out MCG.
Ipswich Liverpool fan Lliam Parslow said the passion for the club in Australia must have been strong enough for the boys to come back.
"This is extremely rare for English football teams," he said.
"We've a passion that rivals no other and we're counting down the days to finally see our beloved football team play in our part of the world."
As for which team Liverpool puts out on the field, fans are still not 100% certain, although Mr O'Sullivan said he was at least confident of seeing captain Jordan Henderson.
The team touches down in Brisbane during Thursday morning.
