Redmen fired up for game against high-flying Goonellabah

LISMORE Workers will be hoping a new resolve to succeed will help them upset high-flying Goonellabah, when they meet in a catch up game from FFNC’s premier league soccer tonight.

The Redmen have the home advantage for the match which marks the half way point of the season, and know they must improve in the second round to make the top five.

Currently a point behind fifth-placed Thistles, Workers have come together as a team and set themselves the target of not losing a match for the rest of the season.

“We’ve had a lot of disruptions so far, but we’ve now got a full-strength side that wants to succeed and has the players capable of doing it,” Workers coach Zac Crowley said.

“Concentrating for the full 90 minutes has been our main issue, but if we can do that we can match it with any side.”

An upset win over the Hornets could be a season defining moment for the Redmen, with Goonellabah coach Brendan Logan well aware of the threat a fired-up Workers pose.

“They’re a strong side that lifts for big games like this, so we’re expecting them to be at their best,” Logan said.

With Goonellabah just a point behind league leader Richmond Rovers, it’s a key game for them as well, setting the stage for a torrid, possibly physical encounter.

Kick off is 8pm.
