Record push by the bikes at Warwick District Drag meet

DRAG RACING: Some competitors will be aiming to set new national records in the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series in the Australian National Drag Racing Association meeting on November 28-29 at Warwick Dragway.

The meeting will be the most prestigious to be hosted by the Warwick District Drag Racing Association.

Queensland rider Peter Everett is keen to see how fast he can go over the one eighth of a mile (200m) strip at Warwick Dragway after winning his class in the East Coast Nationals at Sydney Dragway at Eastern Creek earlier this month.

ANDRA media and PR officer Tim Baker said a group of competition bike riders from Queensland were aiming to set national records for the 200m in the series meeting in Warwick.

"Some of the expected speeds on the strip in Warwick will range from 100 to 150 miles per hour," he said.

In round 2 of the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series at the East Coast Nationals in Sydney, Everett almost set the D/SB speed record to go with being top qualifier and class winner.

He won the ANDRA Gold Christmas Tree defeating second qualifier Matthew Walker in the final.

Baker said there were definitely some competitors travelled from Victoria for the round in Warwick.

"We would be hoping to attract a crowd at least as big as at the VW Warwick event each year," Baker said.

One of the likely starters from Warwick is Brett Benz who will be in the top sportsman class.

He will travel to Sydney this weekend to race at Sydney Dragway and hopes to race a week later in Warwick.

"This will be my first time in the ANDRA series," he said.

"It is awesome to have a national series meeting in Warwick."

The majority of competitors will arrive in Warwick on the Friday with qualifying on Saturday and racing on Sunday.

Rounds of the series have already been held at Alice Springs, Sydney and Portland.

Warwick will be round 4 of a 10-round series.
