WARWICK Bellert is aiming for the Queensland Lawn Bowls District Championships hosted on the Gold Coast in May as his big performance for the first half of the year after an admittedly below par 2015.

"I had a bad year in 2015, I lost some interest in the game and didn't play much but I'm running second this year so I feel I'm in good form again,” Bellert said.

"Five wins this weekend might be a first for Gayndah, as long as I've been playing they've never seen three five game winners so that is a pretty big effort.”

Bellert has been an active lawn bowler for half of his life.

"I first started playing in 2006, so I'll have been playing 11 years in March,” Bellert said.

"I looked at it as an active sport and took it seriously.”

Bellert started to see success in the sport after just a handful of years.

"I didn't start to play big until 201 and 2012 but more so in 2012,” Bellert said.

"2014 was my year though, I won almost every since thing I played in and felt I was in really good form for that year.

"I got to play with some big names as well, when I say big names to me they were and compared to me they were well known and fairly good players.”

Bellert got to play with another of the younger players from the club Tom Colvin at the weekend.

"It was good but I didn't really look at it as a mentoring thing, I haven't done anything like that yet.

"To me bowls is an ageless sport, I mean I'm going on 22 and I play with guys in there 50s and 60s”

After coming back into the game and finding more good form Bellert has already made the Burnett side to represent the region at the district championships this year.

"All the districts in Queensland put together four teams of your and we all go down to the Gold Coast in May for the championship,” Bellert said.

"Finding form now is good and I'll keep working on my game leading up to that.

"I have played in representative teams before like the Gayndah Pennant team but the district side is really my thing.”

Bellert is another of Gayndah Bowls Club junior coach Ashley Harris' pupils and much like Taleah Putney has found great success from his coaching.

"Yeah back in the day I used to be coached by Ashley, he helps a lot,” Bellert said.

Bellert is looking to keep changing up the greens he bowls on in the lead up to the Gold Coast championships.

"I will keep playing, I'll play a few away at places like Miriam Vale, Gladstone and down to Taroom,” Bellert said.

"I like the Sunny Coast too, I have a mate who moved from Kingaroy to Coolum and he is the club champion there now so I'll go play some games with him too.

"The Fraser Coast is good too, I'm pretty easy for wherever we go play just so long as the team is willing to go too.”

Bellert will use the variety of greens with their differences to strengthen his game prior to the start of the district championship on the Gold Coast in May.
