Ready for the glitz and glam
FOLLOWING the busy Christmas and new year period, February and March are often more quiet and less busy times of year.
For Carmel Parkinson, owner of Coolum Beach Newsagency, there was no slowing down.
The business was in full-force promotions mode for the highly contested Connections and Bauer Media Group TV Week Logies competition, wherein newsagents around the country promote magazines, with the most impressive promotions teams winning a trip to the Logies.
Last Tuesday, Mrs Parkinson found out she was a winner.
"I'm very, very, excited, I couldn't believe it,” she said.
"There's a lot of competition and it's very hard to win, so it's nice to be rewarded and have all the hard work pay off.
"You had to promote their magazines through in-store promotions, and on Facebook and Instagram, increasing sales, and doing displays in store and then showing them what you've done.
"They were supposed to announce the winner on the Monday, but we didn't get a call so I assumed we hadn't won, but then we got the call one Tuesday and it was such a surprise.”
Mrs Parkinson and her team went above and beyond with their efforts, with promotions including frequent social media posts, loyalty card promotions, a hamper, and promotions with other businesses in the centre.
Coolum Beach Newsagency was one of three winners, with the others hailing from South Australia and the Gold Coast.
Mrs Parkinson said she would be making the trip with her daughter Melanie.
"It seems to be a bit of a VIP experience, it's not something you can buy tickets for,” she said.
"They book our air fares and accommodation and food and beverages, and we get the red carpet experience...all we've got to do is glam ourselves up.
"In that quieter time of year I can get a bit bored so it's nice to have something interesting to promote and it gives you something to aim for, then if you win that's a bonus.
The 59th Annual TV Week Logie Awards will be held on Sunday, April 23.
