Rapid response saves Toowoomba crematorium from fire

A FIRE which broke out at the Toowoomba Garden of Remembrance was quickly contained after the rapid response from emergency services yesterday.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services were called to the Ruthven St property about 5.15pm after initial reports of a grass fire.

But when crews arrived, the report had changed to a structure fire at the crematorium.

A QFES spokeswoman said crews in breathing apparatus gained entry to the property and used a hose line from the fire truck to contain the blaze.

Crews were dampening down the fire by 5.50pm, and reported it had been extinguished about 10 minutes later.
