Rain clears after big dump

IT came with a bang and was gone by late afternoon after dropping rainfall totals topped by 74mm recorded at Bribie Island.

The coastal trough that has influenced the Sunshine Coast's weather this week first brushed the coastline during Wednesday night's State of Origin clash before driving ashore mid-morning Thursday.

By late yesterday afternoon, skies began to clear as the system pushed north towards Gympie and Wide Bay.

A BOM spokesman said 54mm at Pelican Waters, 40mm at Upper Lamerough, 41mm at Cooroy and 39mm at Westaways Creek near Caloundra were the heaviest 24-hour totals recorded to 4pm yesterday.
