PARAMEDICS spend everyday saving the lives of those in the community and yesterday the community had the rare opportunity to give something back.

The charitable ladies from the Ballina Scope Club spent months fundraising almost $12,000 to purchase a Life Pack 15 monitor/defibrillator for the Ballina Ambulance Station.

While this high-tech piece of medical equipment might sound like a mouthful to most, to paramedics it’s a crucial necessity.

The monitor on the machine is used in most situations and the defibrillator is used on cardiac patients.

“It is such a large donation from a relatively small group, maybe I was not as confident as I should have been that the ladies could get it over the line but they worked so hard to raise so much money on those cold winter mornings,” NSW Ambulance Brunswick Valley Zone Inspector Greg Powellsaid.

Scope Ballina major fundraising co-ordinator Jenny Potts said they raffled off prizes kindly donated by local businesses to raise the money.

“This is important for everyone and we are happy to be able to money for a life-saving piece of equipment,” she said.
