Race for Division 2 hotly contested
HE has worn the inside of his mouth raw with worry about the neck and neck race for Division 2.
This afternoon Ron Petterson was at the final count of ballots that will some time tonight decide the fate of all Whitsunday local government candidates.
Mr Petterson currently has 972 votes and 35.45% of the vote which gives him a very slim advantage over incumbent councillor John Atkinson.
Mr Petterson said he is hopeful to win the Division 2 seat.
But he will have to wait until the count is complete before celebrating.
Returning officer Leanne Lloyd said she did not expect the count to be complete until about 1am.
Division 2 is the one division in the Whitsunday will be the decided by preference allocations as all other candidates have won with more than 50% of the primary vote.
Employment of the Optional Preferential Voting system means if a candidate receives less than 50% of the vote second preference are used to determine a winner.
