Race day raised $40,000 for STEPS charity

A FUNDRAISING race day hosted by BA Murphy Constructions gave new meaning to racing away with a record.

Just over $40,000 was raised on the night for STEPS, which helps young people with a disability enhance their future.

Hosts Ben and Amanda Murphy said they were delighted to be able to support the local charity which relies on community support for funding the Pathways College at Caloundra.

"We were blown away by the number of people who got behind us to raise real dollars for this college, which is changing the lives of young people learning the skills to live independently,” Ben said. "We know that every student at the college puts in a mighty effort every day to learn new skills so that they can have their own home and shape their own lives once they move out of the college and into our community.”

STEPS charity manager Angela Miles said the event had been a huge success as a social gathering as well as a chance for Pathways students to mingle with many supporters from local businesses.

STEPS Group Australia managing director Carmel Crouch said the successful event proved how deeply the Coast community cared for young people with a disability.
