Quest app for nature

THE spirit of adventure when technology combines with nature can create an exciting modern quest for all ages.

The latest down load app QuestaGame craze, had a combination of science and outdoor adventure for its users.

Gladstone Customer Success Manager Dr Lindy Orwin wants to encourage more users of the ever-popular app.

"This system helps people to learn about how to use the game and for communities to map local bio-diversity,” Dr Orwin said.

The QuestaGame app can be downloaded to android or IOS, the user registers and then log in to go explore flora and fauna.

The goal of the game was for users to submit sightings of animals, plants or fungi and earn gold points.

Dr Orwin said users can create clans or join one and during April there was 70,000 in Australia with just university competition players.

"The CQ STEM Hub Clan is the local clan to be a part of or users can create their own,” Dr Orwin said.

"The app uses the GPS in the phone to note where the wildlife was found and the information is submitted to the CSIRO - Atlas of Living Australia for recording,” Dr Orwin said.

One of the sponsors of the Gladstone QuestaGame was the Central Queensland University STEM program.

STEM senior lecturer Dr Linda Pfeiffer was excited about how popular the educational game had become.

"It promotes, science, education and learning about our biodiversity,” Dr Pfeiffer said.
