Queensland celebrates its SES volunteers
TOOWOOMBA willl this week join the rest of Queensland to celebrate our hardworking State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers and the amazing work they do to keep us all safe.
Fire and Emergency Services Minister Mark Ryan said SES Week (October 7-15) provided Queenslanders with an opportunity to thank our volunteers for their continued commitment and dedication.
"SES Week is our chance to recognise their selflessness and hard work and to sincerely say 'thank you' for the countless hours they collectively give this state every year," Mr Ryan said.
"Earlier this year we saw the power and resilience of our 6000-strong volunteer base in full force as SES personnel around the state dropped everything to respond to those impacted most by Mother Nature's fury when Tropical Cyclone Debbie devastated many Queensland communities.
"Of course, the amazing work undertaken by SES volunteers couldn't happen unassisted and SES Week also provides an opportunity for us to thank the family, friends and employers of our volunteers for the support they provide."
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) Commissioner Katarina Carroll said SES played an invaluable role in keeping Queenslanders safe.
"These volunteers will often leave their own families and lives in order to be there for their communities when assistance is most needed," Ms Carroll said.
"Often they are tasked to incidents in trying conditions and confront tense situations yet, despite these challenges, conduct themselves professionally and with compassion.
"Their effort and commitment is without question and I would like each SES volunteer to know their contribution is appreciated."
Various award ceremonies are set to be held across the state during SES Week to honour volunteers and units for their work in the community.
Ms Carroll said the week also provided an opportunity for those thinking of becoming volunteers to take the next step.
