Qld Govt welcomes increased cattle decision

QUEENSLAND Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Bill has welcomed the decision today by the Indonesian government to issue permits for an additional 50,000 head of cattle.

Mr Byrne, who is in Indonesia on a trade mission, with the Northern Territory Minister the Hon. Willem Westra van Holthe, have been meeting with key Indonesian Ministers over the past couple of days around live export, potential future trade opportunities and ongoing relationships with Indonesia.

"The Queensland Government has been working hand-in-glove with our Northern Australian colleagues to strongly support the live cattle trade," Minister Byrne said.

"I was pleased to be able to meet with the Indonesian Co-Ordinating Minister for Economic Affairs this morning and be able to discuss this important decision.

"The Palaszczuk government has an ongoing commitment to supporting our primary producers to ensure they have ongoing export opportunities for their quality Agricultural products. The live export trade supports hundreds of jobs across Queensland."

The visit to Indonesia by the Northern Territory and Queensland represents the first visit to the country since the initial decision to issue 50,000 permits for quarter three was released.
