QFF to host workshops on climate change risk
THE Queensland Farmers Federation is teaming up with the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries and the Bureau of Meteorology to deliver a series of workshops on climate risk and seasonal forecasting for local farmers.
QFF President Stuart Armitage said the workshops were particularly timely given the recent severe weather events and significant rainfall in central Queensland.
"Knowledge is essential when it comes to preparing for the future," Mr Armitage said.
"We know we can't change the weather, however we can prepare for what it does bring.
"Workshops like this give landholders the tools they need to make decisions on the farm that will have a positive impact."
Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Michelle Berry said the workshops would focus on services most relevant for farmers and graziers, providing information on forecasting and warning services and interpretation of probability in rainfall forecasts.
"We will also take a look at further enhancements to graphical weather forecasts through MetEye and the new Japanese meteorological satellite," Ms Berry said.
The workshops, which are funded through the QFF's Cyclone Marcia Industry Recovery Project, will take place in Monto on August 8, Biloela on August 9 and Yeppoon on August 10.
Farmers can register to attend the workshops here.
