Putting faith in higher powers
GIVEN the choice between believing the combination of two leading and experienced educators and social scientists (Emeritus Professor Bill Louden and Dr Emma Rowe) and the State Schools Division (Queensland Department of Education and Training), or a former mathematics teacher at Bundamba State High School, Glenda Carroll, I know who I would choose.
Those readers familiar with Ms Carroll's past contributions here will remember that she holds an associate degree of engineering from the University of Southern Queensland (QT, January 29, 2016) and a masters degree from the University of Queensland in some unidentified subject (QT, November 20, 2015).
These educational achievements have not prevented her from stumbling badly when it comes to the social sciences. She needed to be corrected about the visa processes in Indonesia (QT, January 28, 2014) and the nature of Islam and the legal system in that country (QT, September 21, 2016)
Neither Ms Carroll's learning nor her ability to quote scripture bothers me in the least since I hold a bachelor degree in chemical engineering from the University of Newcastle which is backed by 30 years' international experience and a masters degree in the social sciences from Griffith University, again backed by more than 20 years' experience, in comparative religion and things Indonesian.
