Puppy prams, dog couture and pooch perfume... only in Japan
PAMPERED pooches might have a good life in Australia, but in Japan, some pet canines live like lords.
Japanese city dwellers include their house dwelling puppies as part of the family, in more ways than one.
Some even have their own bedroom.
Dog lovers in Japan devote a considerable part of their yearly budget to buying the latest fashion clothing for their beloved pet.
Toursgallery director Ken Osetroff, who leads Australian tour groups to Japan several time a year, said people are often in disbelief when they walk into a Tokyo pet boutique.
At these stores, shoppers can buy designer brand clothes for dogs of all sizes, gourmet dog food and even dog perfume.
Some restaurants in Japan cater especially for dog lovers who wish to dine with their pet at their table.
Owners can select from exclusive a la carte menus list such treats as Pup Cakes, Puppychinos and Doghots.
Mr Osetroff said he escorted tourists to areas of Japan where they could experience the doggy culture.
He said it was not unusual to see pets being walked along in a dog pram or even being carried in a backpack along a forest track.
