Promising actors win RSL grants to go to more NIDA courses

TWO budding actors have won grants of up to $2500 from the RSL Youth Development Program run in conjunction with Bond University.

Ellouise Ashford, of Maryborough and Chloe Le Roy, of Hervey Bay, who attend the Fraser Coast Anglican College, were among 200 Year 10-11 students from Queensland to win the grants.

Both plan to use the funds to attend courses at the prestigious National Institute of Dramatic Art, having already sampled what it has to offer.

"In October, I was lucky enough to attend the NIDA in Sydney, to do an on-screen acting course," Chloe said.

"I learnt so much about screen acting. The techniques are quite different from theatre acting."

Ellouise also came away from NIDA impressed.

"NIDA taught me so much, they taught me how to take an excerpt of a script and build a whole new character of my own, they taught me how to work with a camera and a director and how to take on board director's notes effectively, they taught me that attention to detail in a character when working on screen is very important," Elloiuse said

The RSL Sub Branch supported Chloe's application while the RSL Sub Branch in Maryborough did the same for Ellouise.
