Pressure no problem for Hayne on Eels return: Hindmarsh

RUGBY LEAGUE: The pressure on Jarryd Hayne to deliver for the Parramatta Eels this year will be enormous, however, club legend Nathan Hindmarsh believes he'll be more than up for the challenge.

Hindmarsh, who is on the Sunshine Coast for Fox League's Full-On Footy Tour, was glad to see Hayne return to his roots with the club after being granted a release from the Gold Coast Titans.

The talented back is set to play his first game with the Eels since 2014 during the local derby clash with Penrith Panthers next Sunday.

For a player who has dabbled in various codes over the past few years, Hindmarsh believed Hayne had the mental fortitude to overcome any external pressures.

"There's a lot of pressure on him to perform but I think he'll be up to that challenge," Hindmarsh said.

"For someone who's gone over to the NFL and never played a game before - the pressure on him to do that would've been enormous - so coming back here to play for the Eels will probably be a walk in the park for him."

He expected plenty of fanfare surrounding Hayne's return next week, with many hopeful he could repeat his award-winning ways.

"He was a pretty influential player getting us to the  '09 grand final, and is a 2x Dally M winner for the Eels (too) so I think there'll be a fair reception for him for sure," Hindmarsh said.

Hindmarsh was also glad to see Nathan Brown extend his contract with the club following a stellar 2017 season and looked forward to a big year from the Eels.

"They had reasonable success last year so you'd be happy as an Eels supporter with what they did," he said.

"I can't see why they can't do the same this year, hopefully a couple steps further would be great."

Hindmarsh, alongside Gorden Tallis and Ben Ikin, visited Coolum State School and also conducted a coaching clinic with the Coolum Colts as part of the Full-On Footy Tour on Friday.

The trio also joined Hannah Hollis and Andy Raymond for a Sportman's Night at the Nambour RSL on Friday night.
