A SUPRISE visit by the Premier had school leaders at the Proserpine State School making a frantic dash for the hair brush and shoe shine at the annual Under 8s Day on Thursday.

Deputy principal Alison Bradford said the school valued the visit by the Annastacia Palaszczuk and during the tour the

Premier was informed on how the community was bouncing back from the devastating effects of Cyclone Debbie.

As the students took part in activities such as rock painting, making music, story telling, craft and touring emergency service vehicles, Ms Palaszczuk chatted and shook hands.

She then was given a tour of the newly built classrooms.

Ms Bradford said there were some students in the school who still did not have stable accommodation while their families waited for insurance payouts.

Ms Palaszczuk visiting the school was a real morale booster, Ms Bradford said.

"Hearing the conversations she was having with people and the way she was asking people 'what can I do to help the community?' was a positive,” Ms Bradford said.

The theme of this year's Under 8s Big Morning Out was "Children Exploring Language and Culture”.

Each activity displayed a map indicating where in the world each activity originated from.

All state schools across Queensland have Under 8s Day but the Proserpine State School prided itself on sharing the idea of learning through play with the wider community.
