Premier, Costo in heated debate in Parliament

PREMIER Annastacia Palaszczuk is looking forward to travelling to the Whitsundays this month and asking constituents "what they think” about local MP Jason Costigan.

The two engaged in a heated debate in Parliament Thursday morning, after Mr Costigan interrupted Ms Palaszczuk as she made claims the LNP's support for solar projects was lacking.

The Whitsunday region has recently received funding that will aid the construction of two solar farms.

"You are interjecting,” Ms Palaszczuk shot at Mr Costigan.

"I am very pleased that we will be up in the Whitsunday region for a community cabinet. We are looking forward to going there. We will be looking at where the solar farms are going to be and what jobs that is going to create. We are going to put it to the Whitsunday region and ask them whether they support these regional jobs.”

After a second interruption, Ms Palaszczuk announced to Mr Costigan: "We will also be asking them what they think about you. That is right.”

"We look forward to going to the Whitsunday region for a community cabinet in the not-too-distant future-in fact, next weekend,” she said.

However, Mr Costigan said he held his own, stating he "had a crack at the Premier and her Labor front bench for good reason”.

"It's her environment minister bullying my constituents at Midge Point, it's her state development minister who won't or can't provide the necessary approvals for the Carmichael mine and it's her tourism minister whose basically turned her back on the Whitsundays simply by not coming to the place.

"But they don't frighten me. Not one bit. As I said in Parliament, bring on the red army.”

This week, Mr Costigan did send a cheeky postcard to the Tourism Minister Kate Jones.

It reads: "Dear Kate, Now you can see why I call myself the Member for Paradise'! Unfortunately, however, we've hardly seen you - just once here since you got the job and that was February last year! So I ask, where the bloody hell are you? Best wishes, Costo.”

State Cabinet will meet in the Whitsundays on October 23-24, with a community forum to be held at Proserpine State High School on the Sunday, October 23.
