Oracle octopus predicts a close grand final

SO WILL the Brisbane Broncos or the North Queensland Cowboys win tomorrow's NRL grand final?

The ultimate way to decide a post game prediction is to seek the answer from the greatest oracle of all - an octopus.

Paul the Octopus rose to worldwide fame correctly picking 85% of matches at the 2010 Football World Cup.

So we thought we would put the rugby league decider to his Coffs Harbour-based cousin Squirt the Octopus at Southern Cross University's Marine Science Centre yesterday.

The experiment was simple.

Prawns were dropped into two bottles, one featuring the Broncos logo and the other the Cowboys.

As the bottles hit the bottom of the tank, Squirt took just seconds to grab hold of the Broncos jar.

Second guessing his decision, it seems, he couldn't remove the prawn from the bottle so he latched onto the Cowboys jar and successful removed the prawn.

Our take on his call, therefore is that it will such a close game that even the oracle from the ocean is stumped.
