Prayer for Bali Nine duo planned for Cotton Tree

A PRAYER vigil will be held at Cotton Tree Park this evening to seek the miracle convicted Bali drug traffickers Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran seem to need to escape execution.

The vigil, which will start at 6pm, has been organised by Angie Smith, a Buderim mother, who said she felt compelled to do something for the two men.

Ms Smith has followed the predicament of Chan and Sukumaran closely during the past three months while laid up through injury.

"I've never met them, but my heart has just gone, 'Oh, these boys'," she said.

Ms Smith said the two men were to be commended for the work they had done to rehabilitate themselves and help other prisoners while in an Indonesian jail.

She said Indonesia could do more in the war against drugs by allowing Chan and Sukumaran to continue their work in the jails, rather than executing.

A Christian, Ms Smith consulted other churchgoers about what they could do to help the men before decided to call the vigil.
