Popular street artist's live art demo

DO YOU want to explore a council building after dark?

How about the chance to do that while drinking craft beer and watching a live art demo at night?

This week you'll have the chance as Artspace Mackay opens its doors for an after hours street themed festival.

Mackay arts champion and Crossroad Arts executive officer Autumn Skuthorp will speak at the event along with popular street artist Buff Diss.

Challenging conventions at every corner, Diss, likes to ask his audience to do the same, which is exactly what he will be doing on the night with his live art exhibition for guests.

Using masking tape, Diss creates mind blowing geometric street art installations that take the concept of geometric art to the next level.

His foray into tape art is a long way from his origins, which started more traditionally with the mediums of spray paint and graffiti.

This modern street art forms more than one purpose though, and while being visually attractive, it creates an outlet for the artist that in less invasive then his old medium.

"With tape, it allows you to create a piece that doesn't damage the structure of the building," he said. "It can be there one minute and gone the next."

On a night already stacked with creativity and motivation, visitors will be able to listen to the smooth sounds of Evan Daily.

Ms Skuthorp, will speak about her passion topic - arts-business partnerships.

Keeping the event edgy, fashion house Saige and Sohl will be showcasing their A/W 2019 styles, with models wearing key pieces from line stocked by the business.

Carmel Jones, the owner of Saige and Sohl, said the models would bring an edge to the event. "They will be showcasing the best fashion from this season. People will just be able to look at the latest items they can get," she said.

Aimed at being an informal event that brings the quintessential street vibe indoors, Street Wise is a collaboration between Artspace Mackay and the Young Professionals.

The exciting Australian street artist will headline the collaborative Artspace Mackay Foundation and Young Professionals event, Street Wise Art After Hours on April 11.

Running at Artspace Mackay from 5.30pm to 9pm and offering craft brews and street-themed fare, Street Wise Art After Hours will be a fun Thursday night unlike any other.

Check out Street Wise for what could be your only chance to explore Mackay's largest art gallery after hours.
