Poor visibility at Mackay Airport has flights diverted

TRAVELLERS have had a small delay to their weekend plans with a Virgin flight to Mackay from Brisbane diverted because of poor visibility.

The Virgin flight VA613 that was due at 4.25pm from Brisbane was diverted back to the capital city.  Virgin flight VA617 that was due at 6.35pm has also been delayed.

A Jetstar flight did land in Mackay on its second attempt.

Heavy cloud and widespread rain across Mackay today has impacted on visibility at the airport, an airport spokeswoman said.

The delays to flights to the airport will affect outbound traffic.  Virgin flights VA620 and VA600 have already been delayed.
