Police officer to face court

A DETECTIVE has been charged with corruption after allegedly giving confidential police information to criminals.

The male senior constable, who served in a specialist police command, has been granted conditional bail to appear in the Coffs Harbour Local Court later this month.

The 39-year-old officer was arrested on Wednesday and the Professional Standards Command has since arrested another man, who is not a police employee.

Officers from that command seized substances believed to be steroids, as several search warrants were executed on the NSW North Coast.

Police will allege the detective senior constable had dealings with a number of criminal associates, to whom he provided confidential police information.

He was charged with corruption, disclosure of personal information and two counts of misconduct and unauthorised access of restricted data held on a computer.

The substances, believed to be steroids, will undergo forensic examination.

The other man, a 40-year-old, was arrested yesterday and charged with corruption.

He was also bailed to appear in Coffs Harbour Local Court on June 27.

Professional Standards Command officers are continuing their inquiries.
