Police investigate fatal truck crash the Sturt Hwy in NSW

POLICE in New South Wales' southwest are investigating the cause of a fatal truck crash this morning.

Emergency services responded to reports of a collision between two heavy vehicles on the Sturt Hwy about 20km east of Balranald about 8am today.

One of the truck drivers, a 41-year-old man, died at the scene, while the other sustained serious injuries and was taken by ambulance paramedics to Mildura Hospital.

He remains in a stable condition.

The highway is expected to be closed for several hours as police conduct inquiries into the cause of the collision.

Preliminary investigations suggest a semi-trailer was stopped at roadwork traffic lights when a B-double slammed into the back of it.

Local diversions have been installed around the crash site.
